Teacher of the Year

Amy Bedenbaugh

2018-2019 District and BLPS Teacher of the Year

The 2018-2019 year marks my 22nd year as an educator.  I taught third and fourth grades for four years before earning my Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina in 2000.  I have been the Media Specialist at Batesburg-Leesville Primary for the past 18 years.

My husband, Andy, and I live in Leesville where we both grew up.  Our children Hunter, Caroline, and Catherine have always gone to Batesburg-Leesville schools.  Hunter is currently at Clemson, while Caroline is a senior and Catherine is a sophomore at BLHS.

My Why

I believe that every student has the potential to excel at something.  My goal each day is to help students discover their passions and support them as they develop their strengths.

Philosophy of Teaching
I believe that teaching is the most important profession in our world today.  Without dedicated and highly competent teachers no other job would exist. Teaching is a job that encompasses much, but is often not held in high esteem by our society.  The rewards gained by teaching are many, but are not monetary and certainly not in few work hours. There is no amount of money that can take the place of watching a child get excited about a new concept, or finally “getting it” when you have helped them understand something they have struggled to learn.   A good teacher not only helps his/her students gain knowledge, but motivates them to want to learn more.
